Entertaiment is an activity that provides diversion or amusement. It may be created by individuals for their own amusement, as when they spontaneously invent a game; it may be provided by a group or institution, as when a theatre puts on a show; or it may be consumed passively, as when one watches a television show or movie. The word comes from the medieval Latin intertenere, with the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix tenere, based on the Indo-European root ten, which means “stretch.” Click the buttons to find related words.
